Semič town core

Semič, with its town square Štefanov trg, is marked by its parish church of St. Štefan, first mentioned in 1228 and built in the Baroque classicism style. The church premises are surrounded by partly preserved walls, which served as a defence againts zhe Turks. The Taborska house, located within the walls, has been renovated, and now hosts regular painting exhibitions and  various cultural performances, especially during summer months. Visitors can find out more about the town´s history, from prehistory to the First World War, in the Local Museum Collection, where you can see the interior of an old wooden Bela krajina vineyard cottage.
