ČrnFest internatinal culture festival
Črnfest is a two-week urban festival that is traditionally held in the second half of August. It interrupts the lazy summer days in the old town centre of Črnomelj. A string of events takes place under the stars in the Črnomelj castle’s atrium.
The slogan of the festival is “Something for Everyone”, which corresponds to the main programme guideline. The programme of Črnfest is devised in a manner that encompasses a vast array of events, such as stand-up performances, events for children, improvisational and classical theatre. Other events include evening talks and presentations of projects by local creators. The two weekends of the festival are reserved for Slovenian and international musical performances of various genres. The festival attracts a large number of local visitors who respond well to its diversity and quality. These are also the characteristics which make the festival recognizable outside of Bela krajina, beyond the Gorjanci mountain range and the Kolpa river alike.
The slogan also alludes to the affordable tickets, which do not exceed ten euros and are usually in the range of two to four euros.
Črnfest is organised by three youth organizations of Bela krajina: the Youth Cultural Club of Bela krajina (MKK), Youth Centre BIT, and the Students’ Society of Bela krajina. The organizers rely on the help of local businesses and the municipality of Črnomelj in order to execute a festival as inclusive as Črnfest is today.
