Today's town of Črnomelj stands on a location that has been inhabited with short interruptions for more than three thousand years.
Beneath its present-day buildings lie rich archaeological layers of centuries that bear witness to the life of the settlement and its people. The story of Črnomlje is a story of ups and downs, times of prosperity and decline, of importance and remoteness, long, rich and interesting.
