The Lipa Centre of School and Afterschool Activities is located in the village of Črmošnjice, which sits in the hilly and forested terrain at the foot of the Kočevski rog plateau. The Lipa Centre maintains an exceptionally strong connection to nature through engaging with the various nearby natural sights and by taking advantage of the numerous possibilities for recreational activities.
At the foot of Gače hill springs a unique Divji potok stream – it foams, and develops cascades and rapids. Budding natural scientists observe its bed and the surrounding area to learn about the life of plants and animals, and the force of water, they set up tiny mills and quench their thirst with the clear spring water. The persisting species here include crayfish and trout. The forest adds a particularly strong mark to Črmošnjice. After the departure of the German settlers of Kočevje (Gottscheers) the area was mostly repopulated by foresters unencumbered by the vicinity of the rare and endangered species such as the brown bear, wildcat, lynx, and wolf.
The area retains its appeal in wintertime, when the slopes of Kočevski Rog are covered in snow. The students can enjoy cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and frolicking in the snow.
If you pass Novo mesto and Dolenjske Toplice on your travels across the beautiful landscape of the Dolenjska region, you will happen across Črmošnjice and the Lipa Centre of School and Afterschool Activities.
