Plague Column in Trata
The plague column in Trata, at the arterial road to Semič, is one of the oldest and rarest masonry plague columns in Bela krajina. It reminds us of the plague which took its toll in these villages and towns a few centuries ago. The masonry plague column has a square ground plan. Visually it consists of three parts. The bottom part is made of stone, the middle part is an attachment with niches and the upper part is a roof. The most dynamic part is the attachment to the niches. In them, wooden sculptures were once erected, but they were removed and replaced with plaster casts. The plague column is taken care of by the locals who have named it “the Pild”.
