Weaving products of all kinds, handicrafts and arts and crafts

Mrs Vesna Veselič from Adlešiče in Bela Krajina makes traditional Easter eggs and linen products - both of which have been awarded the Art & Craft certificate by the Slovenian Chamber of Crafts and Enterprise.

The oldest pisanica, which are still made in Adlešiči in Bela Krajina today, date back to 1800 (the oldest examples of Bela Krajina Easter Egg pisanica are kept in the Bela Krajina Museum in Metlika). Mrs Vesna is one of the women who preserve this traditional way of making pisanica.

Mrs Veselič makes her canvas products from home-made linen. The folk saying goes: ''Flax is flax, it takes a year and a day to work with it'', so it is not surprising that in the past, flax encouraged socialising and mutual help. Both flax and home-made linen have been very useful commodities for people for centuries. The path from seed to finished product goes something like this: sowing, plucking the flax stalks, removing the flax seed, soaking, drying, spinning, carding, washing, bleaching the yarn, winding the yarn on a tick, weaving, and finally sewing. Linen can be used for a variety of products: from clothing, bed linen, tablecloths, towels, to bags and other fashion accessories.

TKBZ Belokranjsko has obtained the quality certificate for:

  • Bela Krajina Easter Egg
  • Bela Krajina linen tablecloth
  • Bela Krajina linen change box
  • a linen cover for a souvenir book
  • Bela Krajina linen backpack

The products can be purchased at the TIC Črnomelj, the online shop belokranjski-izdelki.si, the Bela Krajina House of Local Delights, and their online shop hisadobrot-belekrajine.si.
