How to get to Bela Krajina

How to get to Bela Krajina

The tourist destination Bela Krajina is located in the south-east of Slovenia and comprises the following municipalities Črnomelj, Metlika and Semič. We are bordering Croatia, which is why many people know us as a destination where they stop when they go to the seaside. With no motorway, tunnels or expressways, we have a reputation in Slovenia as a less accessible destination. But this "inaccessibility" gives Bela Krajina a special charm and tranquillity, and you a place to rest.

How to get to Bela Krajina?

We'll take Ljubljana, the capital, as our starting point

  • By train: It's true - the train ride from Ljubljana takes about 3 hours, if there are no delays. But this ride is a real experience. In between you can celebrate your birthday twice and listen to all the songs on YouTube.
Choose the link Ljubljana - Novo Mesto - Črnomelj - Metlika and enjoy a century-long ride. Click HERE to choose your timetable.

  • You can also take a bus from Ljubljana Bus Station. The journey time is definitely shorter. You can choose the bus timetable from Ljubljana and then to places in Bela Krajina HERE. Please note that the connection is worse at weekends.

  • The easiest way to get there is by car: on the motorway connecting Ljubljana and Zagreb. Exit the motorway at Novo Mesto - East or Novo Mesto - West and follow the regional roads to reach Bela Krajina.
Once you are settled in Bela Krajina, you can choose whether you want to travel by car or take a more sustainable way of getting around our destination. We recommend that you bring your own bike, or if you don't have one, you can rent one from the providers.

  • In Črnomelj and Semič e-bikes are available, which are also connected to Novo Mesto, if you happen to be tempted to ride outside of Bela Krajina.
