Dobličica Educational Trail
The circular educational and recreational trail along the Dobličica River (10 km) takes you along the upper basins of the Dobličica and Jelševniščica Rivers, its left tributary. If paying close attention, you can get acquainted with the main characteristics of the karst rivers along the route: a deep siphon, a meandering river bed, and numerous side springs. The underground area of the Dobličica and some of its left springs is home to the black olm - you can learn about the habitat and special characteristics of this endemic species at the Infocenter in Jelševnik. For the animals in the river and the people of Bela Krajinia, the Dobličica Spring with its clean drinking water is of key importance, as there is a pumping station at the spring supplying water to their water supply network. Healthy drinking water is vital to life, so this kind of educational trail is important for raising awareness about the importance of protecting and ensuring drinking water supply.
