Duma, Velikobukovska, Republikanka - WHAT?

LAHINJA TRAIL ROUTES - WHERE DO THE NAMES COME FROM?

First year one trail to taste, second year 2 trails - small victories, third year - 3 trails and the question why not add a name next to the kilometres? And really, why not?
Each trail carries its own story - its own past, its own character and echoes of Bela krajina, the people and the land you run on.

🧠 DUMA - after Oton Župančič

DUMA is not just a poem, it is a state of mind. Oton Župančič, the king of verse, born in Vinica, grew up in Dragatuš, showed with his Duma that even the silence between the lines can carry more power. Duma is HOME for us locals, even if we move around the world! ''Where are you going? Duma, to Bela Krajina!'
The 10-kilometre route is literally HOME - in the Dragatuš area.
Speed will not save you on this route. It's where you listen. Every step is a thought, every breath - a verse. When fatigue hits you, remember: if Župančič could write the world's poetry from these places, you can write yours here.

🌳 Velikobukovska - after the big beech tree

This route breathes forest. The beech trees that make up Veliko Bukovje are not only a nature reserve - it is one of the largest Natura 2000 sites in Bela Krajina and is also a well-preserved large wooded area made up of the Illyrian oak and white oak forests that cover the spindly karst world between Vinica, Bojanci and Adlešiči. Today, a forest road, known locally as the "štreka", a track made by prisoners of war during the First World War, runs through the Velika Bukovje. Once upon a time, there really was a forest train there.
When you step onto the 18-kilometre-long Velikobukovsko trail, you enter a green labyrinth where nature writes the rules. There is no room for ego, only respect - for the majesty of the forest, the animals and the history.

🔥 Republikanka - thanks to the Vinica Republic 1919

And then she comes - the Republikanka.
A route that doesn't yield, doesn't beg, doesn't apologise. It is named after the Vinica Republic, that brief but daring outbreak of freedom in April 1919, when the villagers of Vinica said "enough" and declared their own republic. It lasted only a few days, but it is still talked about today.
Republikanka is therefore a tribute to those who do not accept. Who do not wait for permission to step forward. When your feet are burning, when the terrain is cutting, remember that you are walking on paths that carry the memory of a moment when people said: we are not giving up, even though the stakes were high. Run the 30-kilometre route, climb Žeželj (the total ascent of the route is 546 metres) and touch the border with your mind. The border you see below you - the Kolpa River, which has never actually divided, except on paper. A border you set for yourself. Why don't you go beyond?

Each route of the Lahinja Trail has its own story, but they are all connected by the same purpose: to remember where you come from and where you are going.

  • DUMA reminds you that strength grows from within.
  • VELIKOBUKOVSKA grounds you and teaches you to breathe with the forest.
  • REPUBLIKANKA launches you forward - into your own rebellious freedom.

As you stand at the start, think: you're not just running the kilometres, you're running the ground with local stories.
And these are the stories that Bela Krajina writes. Be part of it! Run your own!
