Circular Cycle Route Črnomelj
The cycling tour takes you through Črnomelj, a town with more than 3000 years of history, situated on a pier between the rivers Lahinja and Dobličica. The route combines the city's pulse, natural refreshment along the river banks, and panoramic views from the surrounding hills.
The route symbolically starts in the Old Town, where you are greeted by the mighty Črnomalj Castle, the Church of St Peter, and the Pastoral Centre. The first kilometres pass through the town streets, where you cross bridges over the two rivers, offering a unique view of a town caught in the embrace of the water.
The Otovec Viaduct is not just a construction object, but a monument of local significance, a testimony to the engineering know-how of the early 20th century and the turbulent wartime history of the area. If you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a passenger train passing over the viaduct, a particularly attractive scene.
This is the perfect spot for a short rest before the climb, where you can regain your strength at the sight of this architectural icon of Bela Krajina.
