Penine

In the Simonič family, viticulture has been a tradition for generations. In the late 1990s, Ivan Simonič decided to turn his attention to the production of sparkling wines and became the first private producer of sparkling wines in Bela Krajina. Like French champagne, Semiška Penina is produced using the claret champagne method. The base wine is made from Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Riesling, and Blaufränkisch, matured in the sunny positions of the own vineyards, which stretch across the Semič hills, as part of the Bela krajina wine-growing region. The sparkling wines are matured in the bottle for 18 months. They currently offer 9 types of sparkling wine.

The quality certificate was awarded to Semiška Penina:

  • Rose
  • semi-dry
  • Brut

The sparkling wines can be purchased:

  • in the Cellar of Semiška Penina in Semič and the online shop of the provider
  • in Bela krajina House of Local Delights
  • in the TIC Črnomelj
  • in the TIC Semič
