Kanižarica Brown Coal Mine Collection
The Kanižarica Brown Coal Museum shows the mining history of Bela Krajina, the most important part of which is the establishment and development of the Kanižarica coal mine in 1857. The museum consists of two parts: the museum collection and an export tower with an artificial mine tunnel. In the first part, the museum collection presents the geological history of Bela Krajina and the origin of the Kanižarica coal mine, the history of the Kanižarica coal mine from its foundation in 1857 until its closure in 1997 and the production process of coal extraction. In the second part of the museum, visitors get to know the mine through two main buildings: the export tower and the mine tunnel. The export tower is the entrance to the underground mine, where visitors enter an artificial mine tunnel and thus experience the work of a miner. The museum tells the complete story of the creation and development of the Kanižarica coal mine, offers the experience of a mine tunnel, and highlights the mining heritage of Bela Krajina.
