Mlada Portugalka

Indigenous Wine Variety Festival

Enthusiasts for autumn, wine events, and party lovers increasingly return to Bela Krajina yearly. As the wine cellars and wineries fill up, the land shines in autumn colors. Every year, on the third weekend of October, the Association of Wine Growers of Metlika organizes the Mlada Portugalka Wine Festival in the old town center."
In the afternoon, members of the association bring a cask containing young wine to the castle courtyard. The festival begins with the hammering of the wine tap into the cask.
“The special characteristic of Blauer Portugieser wine is that it matures from must to young wine in just a few weeks, offering immediate pleasures. The young wine is fresh, light-bodied, and has aromatic notes in its scent. In combination with roasted chestnuts, this is where the magic happens."
At the festival, numerous Bela krajina winemakers present their young wines, while the program is enhanced by the Slovenian Wine Kingdom. In the evening hours, a lively dance group ensures a good atmosphere in the castle.
