The largest wine festival in Slovenia

If we would describe Bela Krajina to a foreigner, in addition to the picturesque landscape, natural attractions, and traditional practices we would certainly want to present the Bela Krajina cuisine, where a special place is reserved for fine wines. From 1983 those fine wines present themselves in the middle of May on the wine festival Vinska Vigred in Bela Krajina.

This year as well. On the third weekend of May, friends of Bela Krajina will gather again in Metlika’s city center. On Friday the coronation of the Metliška Črnina Queen, the bestowment of the best wines, and the opening of the culinary exhibition are taking place. On Saturday across Metlika you hear the music of the wind orchestra, folklore groups, and various other musicians. On this day too visitors taste the best wines from Bela Krajina and try the Belokrajska Pogača Flatbread. At the workshop, visitors can learn to bake this protected dish.

Piglet and lamb roasted on a spit are considered the greatest delicacy in Bela Krajina. Saturday on Vinska Vigred is for families. Numerous activities and workshops are adjusted to children, families, and everybody who is attracted to the diverse program and many booths. In the evenings good dance music is provided. Vinska Vigred in Bela Krajina is not only the largest wine festival in Slovenia, with more than 40 years under its belt. It is also an event that connects locals and local providers. Vinska Vigred combines multiple aspects, such as culture, entertainment, joy, and the culture of drinking wine.
