There are places where tradition is not merely preserved in books, but lives on amongst the people. Where stories are passed down from generation to generation, music fills the air, a sense of homeliness brings visitors together, and a love of local customs creates an unforgettable experience year after year.

One such place is Semič.

The Semiška Ohcet, one of the most recognisable festivals in the Bela Krajina region, has been reviving the old Bela Krajina wedding customs since 1995 and, with its authenticity, delights visitors from all over Slovenia and abroad. This year, the festival will take place from 28 August to 30 August 2026. Over the decades, the festival has become much more than a display of a traditional wedding. It has become a celebration of community, cultural heritage, music, cuisine and hospitality.

The year 2026 brings a special new feature.

Under the auspices of the Semiška Ohceti festival, the Boutique Wedding Fair ‘ Bela Krajina’ will also take place for the first time, aimed at anyone dreaming of a fairytale wedding. Carefully selected wedding service providers, local artisans and experience providers will come together in one place to offer future newlyweds inspiration, ideas and high-quality options for their big day.

Visiting the event is a great opportunity to combine pleasure with practicality. You can spend the day by the Kolpa River, exploring the picturesque corners of Bela Krajina, sampling local delicacies and discovering the rich cultural heritage, before immersing yourself in the festival atmosphere of the Semiška Ohceti in the evening. This year’s re-enactment of the Semiška Ohceti ritual will be particularly interesting, as it will bridge the past and the present.

Experience Bela Krajina through its most beautiful story.
