Pilgrimage Church of St Mary

On Žeželj above, Vinica is the famous pilgrimage church of the Virgin Mary, which is reached from the village of Golek by 14 chapels of the Stations of the Cross. The spacious church with a large shed in front of the main entrance was built on the site of an older one in the second half of the 17th century. The three-story "golden" main altar, the largest in Bela Krajina, dates from the 1st half of the 18th century, the pulpit with the monogram of the Virgin Mary, and the scene of the Annunciation dates from the 2nd half of the 18th century. The side altar, which was rebuilt in the 19th century, dates from the same period. Today, the church is also a checkpoint on the Župančič Trail.
