"This egg is given for love!"
Who doesn't know the traditional Bela Krajina Easter eggs, which warm many hearts, or the linen tablecloth that adorns many a table with a typical Bela Krajina pattern? How about hand-knitted warm woolen socks or soap dressed in wool? With the Bela Krajina Master experience, you can now learn all the listed traditional crafts from experienced makers. The path from apprentice to master is long and demanding, but you can take the first step by visiting themed workshops: making Easter eggs, embroidery, felting and crocheting. In a two- to three-hour workshop, you will learn about materials and manufacturing techniques and make your own product. For each completed workshop, you receive a part of the prize, which is combined into a practical gift after attending all four workshops.
Making Easter eggs
The production of real Easter eggs in Bela Krajina is more than a century old. In the past, Bela Krajina Easter eggs were associated with Easter customs. Today, we know Easter eggs mainly as masterful traditional products, which have been the most famous Bela Krajina souvenir for many decades.
Embroidery
Embroidery used to be a domestic or household activity that women in the countryside did. They mainly produced objects for use in everyday life. In Bela Krajina, our ancestors made linen from flax and hemp, which were sown in early spring. In Bela Krajina, from embroidery techniques, weaving has been preserved as a kind of Bela Krajina characteristic until today - a technique of embroidery using counted threads that imitates weaving. The embroidery workshop lasts about 2 hours. The workshop manager presents everything about homemade linen, the work process, weaving technique. At the end, the participant takes the product with them.
Felting
Felting is a pleasant activity, in which we create natural products that are healthy for use from gentle, soft, warm wool felting with a steady rhythmic movement. It is one of the first methods (technique) of processing wool for clothing. The oldest evidence of felting was found in Turkey, 8,500 years ago, and the first records of wool date back to Babylonia.
Knitting
Participants will learn the basics of crocheting or knitting, and take the product as a souvenir at the end. The workshop manager has the material (wool, tools) with her.
